RESET Study

Background

In the UK the number of people diagnosed with type 2 diabetes is increasing. Type 2 diabetes is strongly linked to reduced physical function (difficulties in carrying out daily activities, muscle weakness, slow walking speed, etc.). This may contribute to additional complications, such as hospital admissions, falls and disability. Regular exercise can be very effective at improving physical fitness and strength.

We seek to investigate whether a specialist exercise program can improve physical function in people with type 2 diabetes and low fitness.

Study aims

The intervention duration is 8 weeks and consists of exercise sessions tailored to participants’ abilities. Each session will last approximately 60 minutes and incorporate a warm-up period with stretching exercise, resistance exercise, aerobic exercise and a cool-down with balance exercise.
