Recognising the contribution of our senior research dietitian on AHP Day 2025

Today (Tuesday 14 October) marks Allied Health Professions (AHP) Day 2025, which is a celebration of the vital contribution AHPs make to improving health and wellbeing across the NHS.

Dietitians working in research play a key part in developing and delivering studies that advance our understanding of health and nutrition, helping to shape future treatments and improve patient outcomes.

Fin Turner, Senior Specialist Research Dietitian for Leicester Diabetes Centre (LDC), supports participants involved in research into potential new weight loss treatments. His role involves providing lifestyle counselling, supporting behaviour change, and ensuring the delivery of carefully designed dietary interventions within clinical trials. Research dietitians also plan and monitor standardised meals and assessments, contributing to high-quality data collection and participant care.

Fin’s expertise and person-centred approach have made a lasting impression on those taking part in research. One participant, who nominated him for a BEE (Being Exceptional Everyday) award, said:

“It’s rare that you can connect with a medical professional... I left the appointment feeling so much better about my ability to manage my condition.”

On AHP Day, we celebrate Fin and all allied health professionals who play a vital role in clinical research, providing compassionate care to help improve health and wellbeing for the future.
