Developed by the team at the Leicester Diabetes Centre, one of the UK’s leading centres for diabetes research, education, and innovation, the Toolkit is a comprehensive resource for healthcare professionals involved in insulin initiation and ongoing management.
The updated Toolkit covers key areas of insulin therapy, including:
The different types of insulin
Insulin regimens and titration in type 2 diabetes
Insulin regimens and the use of technology in type 1 diabetes
Insulin administration and delivery devices
General advice, including guidance on driving, managing hypos, physical activity, travel, and religious fasting
Sick day rules
Insulin safety – both prescribing and administration
The Toolkit has been developed with accessibility and practical application in mind, offering healthcare professionals a reliable point of reference for both routine and complex clinical decision-making around insulin therapy.
Professor Melanie Davies, Co-Director of the Leicester Diabetes Centre, said:
“In a rapidly changing world, having access to up-to-date information for effective insulin management is critical. We hope this updated Toolkit supports you in your safe clinical practice and is a useful asset for your knowledge and confidence.”
