MMQ
Study title
Multi-Morbidity and self-reported treatment burden Questionnaire: information from secondary care in a cardio-renal-metabolic, COVID-19 setting (The MMQ Study).
Funding and sponsorship
This project is funded by the National Institute of Health Research (NIHR).
Background
To investigate the perceived treatment burden of people living with multi-morbidities, recruiting from a secondary care cardio-renal-metabolic setting, during and after the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic.
To investigate, with a secondary care cohort:
Levels of perceived polypharmacy compared with actual polypharmacy
Levels of perceived multi-morbidity compared with diagnosed multi-morbidity
Levels of perceived frailty compared with clinically assessed frailty
Whether, and how, behaviours and socio-demographic factors are associated with multi-morbidity
The levels of obesity associated with perceived and actual multi-morbidity
Whether, and how, does perceived treatment burden differ between ethnic groups and between people with single conditions
The patient’s use of NHS services across primary and secondary care health system during and after a global pandemic
What patients think about coming to secondary care during or after the coronavirus pandemic
If there is an increase in perceived treatment burden with those that tested positive with COVID-19
Study aims
Planned sample size is 10,000.
In the initial 12-18 month period, we aim to recruit 2,000 participants (during-pandemic group) to understand multi-morbidity during the coronavirus pandemic. We will then recruit up to a maximum of 8,000 more patients (i.e. 10,000 in total), assuming that there are no further COVID-19 surges then this will form the post-pandemic group. Otherwise, participants recruited during during a COVID-19 surge (or if the current pandemic is ongoing) will be included in the during-pandemic group.
