The IMPACT team develops bespoke, innovative and evidence-based interventions which support people living with, or at risk of, long-term conditions, and which are primed for research or implementation in the real world.

What we do

Intervention development:

Our experienced multi-disciplinary team designs, develops and refines structured self-management education programmes for people living with, or “at risk” of developing long-term conditions through facilitating behaviour change. Our self-management and prevention programmes (offered face-to-face or digitally), are informed by evidence and underpinned by psychological theories and behaviour change techniques; guided by our person-centred philosophy to empower people to live a healthy lifestyle. We follow National Institute of Clinical Excellence (NICE) standards for self-management education programmes, therefore our quality-assured programmes have specific aims, learning objectives, curriculums and supporting material and are delivered by trained facilitators.

Delivery of programmes:

We facilitate and deliver one-to-one or group-based face-to-face and virtual structured education programmes, in research and clinical settings.

Training of facilitators:

We develop and deliver bespoke training and quality assurance programmes, including mentorship, quality development and accreditation for facilitators delivering our self-management programmes. This can be within research or translated and implemented into real world settings.

Quality assurance and Intervention Fidelity:

We design and carry out Intervention Fidelity to assess the degree to which the self-management education programmes are delivered as intended, thereby informing the evaluation of the research intervention.

Health literacy and Patient and Public Involvement:

We utilise Patient and Public Involvement (PPI) to ensure our programmes respond to the needs of the people who use our programmes. We consider health literacy within all our programmes as this is especially important in long-term health conditions where individuals have a more active role in decisions and management.

We develop interventions tailored and adapted to meet the needs of different populations and cultures. For example, we have developed programmes that are fit-for-purpose for people from ethnic minorities, people with intellectual disabilities and people with mental ill-health.

We very much welcome and seek feedback as this allows us to refine and continually improve our programmes.
