LDC experts to share latest research and insights at the 2026 Diabetes UK Professional Conference

Experts from the Leicester Diabetes Centre (LDC) will attend this year’s Diabetes UK Professional Conference (DUKPC 2026), taking place from 22–24 April at the Exhibition Centre Liverpool.

As the UK’s largest annual gathering dedicated to diabetes care, the conference brings together more than 2,000 clinicians, researchers, academics, educators and industry partners to explore the most urgent challenges and the newest advances in diabetes treatment, technology, and research.

Globally recognised for its excellence in diabetes research, education and innovation, LDC is the UK’s largest clinical diabetes research facility and one of only five International Diabetes Federation (IDF) Centres of Excellence in Europe.

LDC experts will be contributing across plenary sessions, panel discussions, professional interest networks, and poster presentations throughout the three‑day event. Below is a full overview of the LDC programme at DUKPC 2026:

Day 1 – Wednesday 22 April

9:00 – 10:30 | Opening Plenary – “No one left behind: Setting the national agenda for diabetes equity”.

Professor Kamlesh Khunti
Professor Khunti will help set the tone for the conference with a vision for equitable diabetes care across the UK. His lecture explores the persistent inequities in diabetes outcomes and highlights the shared responsibility across the profession to design inclusive, future‑focused health services aligned with the Fit for the Future: 10‑Year Health Plan for England.

13:25 – 14:25 | B3 – Professor Claire Meek will Co‑Chair the session titled: “Beyond bump and baby: Navigating postnatal diabetes care gaps”.

14:35 – 15:15 | C1– Professor Claire Meek will then contribute to the session: “Carbs or Cals? Advancing the nutritional management of diabetes in pregnancy”.

14:35 – 15:15 | C2 – Professor Pratik Choudharywill be a panel member for the session titled: “Core gluco‑metabolic outcomes and implications for care”.

15:20 – 16:10 | DUK Professional Interest Network – Diabetes Specialist Nurses (Early Career)

Erica Richardson, Diabetes Specialist Nurse
Erica will discuss the updated Integrated Career and Competency Framework and how early‑career DSNs can navigate new technologies, automated insulin delivery and evolving care pathways.

16:15 – 17:15 | D3Professor Samuel Seidu will be a Session Contributor for the Poster Awards Session.

Day 2 – Thursday 23 April

8:45 – 9:25 | F1 – Professor Samuel Seidu will be a speaker during the session titled: “Transforming diabetes and cardiometabolic care: Person‑centred innovation across the life course”

8:45 – 9:30 | F3– Professor Pratik Choudhary will be speaking during the session: “CGM, driving, and the DVLA: What has changed and why it matters”. Professor Choudhary will discuss recent updates to DVLA guidance regarding continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) and driving safety.

10:40 – 11:30 | DUK Professional Interest Network – Primary Care

Professor Samuel Seidu will be contributing to the Professional Interest Network session about Primary Care.

15:00 – 16:00 | K5 – Professor Samuel Seidu will then be speaking about male sexual health during the session titled: “Sexual health and diabetes: Addressing the overlooked”

15:00 – 16:00 | K6– Alison Northern, LDC and DESMOND Implementation Lead will be speaking during the “Structured education reimagined: Overcoming barriers and inequalities” session, which will explore how structured education can be redesigned to better support people with additional needs, including intellectual disabilities, neurodivergence, sensory impairment, and diverse cultural or communication needs.

16:05 – 16:55 | DUK Professional Interest Network – Diabetes Specialist Nurses (Advanced Career)

Julia Gosling, Senior Diabetes Clinical Research Nurse
Julia will discuss pathways into research for advanced diabetes nurses and how research roles can be integrated into clinical practice.

17:00 – 18:00 | L1 – Professor Claire Meek will be speaking in the session titled: “Gestational diabetes diagnosis: How many cases are we missing?”.

Day 3 – Friday 24 April

13:25 – 14:25 | P6 – Professor Tom Yates will be contributing to the session: “CGM access equity in type 2 diabetes: Lived experience and quality of life”. Professor Yates will explore how physical activity and dietary behaviours influence outcomes in people with type 2 diabetes using CGM.
